Brunch is my love language
I like a spread that mixes one hot dish, something bready, fruit, and a pitcher drink people can help themselves to. The vibe is unhurried. Pajamas welcome.
Set the table the night before. Warm the oven for the one thing that needs finishing. Then pour coffee, put out the jam, and let the morning unfold.
What to put on the table
Make the pancake batter the night before if you are feeling organized. Poach eggs to order or hold hollandaise in a thermos. Smoked salmon benedict feels extravagant and only asks for timing, not magic.
Keep fruit and pastries at room temperature. Coffee stays hot in a thermos so you are not tethered to the machine.
How the morning should feel
Guests arrive to coffee already brewing. One hot dish comes out when people are hungry, not when you are ready. Seconds are encouraged. Cleanup can wait until the afternoon.
Brunch is the meal where nobody checks the clock. Protect that.
